With 3.8 million hectares of forest, the Pyrenean massif is an important source of wood that remains under-exploited, particularly because of the difficulties of access to wooded plots.These difficulties of exploitation are related to the topographic context of the Pyrenees, topography which strongly influences the forest service.
In places that do not exist or are in poor condition, this network also has black spots preventing the circulation of logging trucks (tonnage limitation, road too narrow to pass a hamlet ...).In order to improve wood mobilization at the Pyrenean chain level, 8 partners have joined forces under the VIAPIR project to:Create a comprehensive cartographic and technical database of forest services (characteristics, civil and forestry equipment, black dots) which has been enriched by field surveys carried out by forest professionals using a single protocol;Develop a dynamic tool dedicated to industry professionals so that they can view and update this information in real time.This tool makes it possible especially for the actors of the mobilization of the wood of the Pyrenees of:Define the most suitable route to access the sites and optimize transport logistics,Contribute to enrich the database by making reports (new black spots, defective equipment, etc.).This information is made available to wood mobilization stakeholders (free of charge - see the conditions of use of the VIAPIR data) and may be used in public studies evaluating the mobilizable resource, environmental studies or service plans.
